Why do stoners get a bad rap?
The stereotypical stoner is forgetful and lazy, but what if I was to say, that they are ahead of their time. Maybe it isn’t marijuana that makes us lazy, its our age .., and marijuana.
It might not be a good idea to start smoking weed at a young age. There is some evidence that shows smoking pot has adverse effects on developing memory.
Plus a few other reports noting the same, but make sure to include “temporary memory loss” in the report.
OK, but what if you start smoking marijuana at a later age? Would the outcome be the same, how does weed effect an aging brain vs a younger one.
According to a report from Scientific America, the elderly may get a brain boost from THC.
Cannabis has an anti-aging effect on the brain
A new study from the University of Bonn Germany, has made an interesting discovery. It turns out that Pot is beneficial to the adult brain.
Researchers administered a low dose of THC to young and older mice. The purpose was to study how the brain reacted to THC, main active cannabinoid in marijuana.
In this study, the mice where dosed with THC and monitored for behavioral, learning and memory performance. The younger mice preformed worse “high” than they did before receiving THC.
Thats about what we would expect. When your under the influence of cannabis, reaction times are delayed and memory is temporarily dulled.
Then older mice where then put to the same tests and the results surprised the researchers. It turns out that, although the younger mice had a drop in performance, the older mice improved. In fact the older mice out preformed the younger untreated (no THC ) mice.
“The effects were very robust, very profound” – Andreas Zimmer, lead researcher
Experiments proved that THC in older mice restored cognitive functions to the level of younger mice. Reversing the diminishing effects age has on the brain.
They noticed that brain neurons responsible for learning and memory grow more synaptic spines when treated with cannabis.
These synaptic spines are the main point of contact between neurons for communication.

Don’t demonize THC
Why must we separate the good from the high, it’s time to realize, getting high is good for your health!
