How CBD Works
Scientist have discovered the human endocannabinoid system decades ago. This discovery has lead to advancements in the understanding of the human body. We have also discovered that Cannabinoids, just like those produced in plants, a.k.a cannabis. Is naturally occurring in our system. This has also given birth to new concepts in how our bodies chemistry works.
Cannabinoids receptors are all over our body, with highest concentration in nerve cells and neurons. So, our systems are already designed to interact with cannabinoids.
The Sleep Benefits of CBD
CBD has proven to be one of the most beneficial cannabinoids found in medical marijuana. Inducing a better nights sleep is just one of them.
Increase total sleep times
A 2013 study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, looked into the sleep cycle of rats on CBD. Adult male rates were split up into 4 groups and treated with CBD. There total sleep times after receiving CBD were increased.
REM Sleep
CBD can help you enter the REM sleep cycle soon and longer than usual.
Insomnia
Another article published here, indicates CBDs potential to reduce insomnia, at high doses.
Dosing CBD Oil for a better nights sleep
No 2 people are the same, so figuring out how much CBD you should take for sleep may be a little tricky. It’s important to have patience when trying to figure out your dose.
NOTE:
- If you already use medical marijuana on a regular basis. Your tolerance to cannabinoids may be a bit higher.
- Treating insomnia may also require a higher dose.
Just trying to get comfortable: Start off with a low to mid dose. 100mg to 250mg should be enough to put your mind and body at ease. Allowing you to naturally wind down and fall asleep in a few hours.
Want a solid eight hours of sleep: 400 to 500mg should be more then enough for you to fall into a deep sleep.
Insomnia: 600mg or more can be used to induce sleep. Its also possible to include a small dose of Melatonin, about 2-6mg should be safe.
More on Melatonin
Melatonin is a hormone, regular use of any hormones can lead to a decrease of natural production, use caution.
Melatonin is not for everyone and can actually interrupt sleep. So if you have used Melatonin in the past and notice these interruptions. Adding CBD to the mix may not help.
How do you know if Melatonin will work for you? You don’t, you have to try it alone and see how it interacts with you.
Conclusion
CBD is a natural and safe alternative to over the counter sleep aids. Unlike pharmaceuticals, its also gentler and doesn’t take a toll on your system.
Next time you can’t fall asleep consider giving CBD oil a shot for a better night sleep.
You can take CBD oil with melatonin, but determine the effects of meletonin alone first before including it into a CBD sleep regime.
