The Marijuana market has became so saturated with strains high in THC and CBD. Although these type of strains are great and severe their purpose.
Many of us have decided to widen our horizons and explore the healing effects of other less known Cannabinoids.
What is CBN
As THC ages it begins to oxidize it breaks down into CBN (Cannabinol). This cannabinoid is less potent and doesn’t produce the same high as its, younger and more popular counter part.
But, we are slowly starting to find out that CBN may posses some medicinal value.
This cannabinoid, like many others is still some what of a mystery. But, as legislation changes and more research is being conducted.
CBN Benefits
All cannabinoids interact with the human endocannabinoid system. Potentially producing some health benefits. Here is what we know about CBN so far:
- Help sleeping
- Controls convulsions
- Anti bacterial
- Anti inflammatory
- Promotes bone cell growth
- Stimulates appetite
How to find Strains high in CBN
If your interested in CBN for its health benefits and want to avoid THC and its high. You will have trouble finding this strain.
Even thought there are strains that claim to be higher in CBN. The ration of THC to CBN is still going to be high.
Strains high in CBN don’t really exist, because its not possible for a fresh plant to produce CBN. The only way to increase CBN levels in through an aging process.
How to Raise Your Weeds CBN Levels
There are four factors involved with aging buds for higher CBN. Here are a list of the main elements needed.
- Time
- Oxygen
- Moisture
- Buds
It’s hard to say what the order of importance would be. Each one of these is crucial and effect the end product. Lets walk through and explain each of these points.
Time
The amount of time necessary can be difficult to determine. You would need to take the other factors into consideration as well as your own taste and preference. The longer cannabis is stored, the more THC breaks down.
The amount of THC, the oxygen and moisture levels also speed degradation of THC. Its a good idea to sample once every couple of weeks.
Oxygen
Marijuana stored in an open air environment will age faster then when stored in a jar. Oxygen is needed to oxidize THC into CBN. If for example cannabis was vacuum sealed, it would not oxidize, resulting in almost no CBN.
I prefer a glass jar for a very slow aging, months to years. Or a cedar cigar style box for a quicker but effective curring age.
Moisture
Moisture can do nasty things to marijuana. A storage environment with moderate to high moisture levels, that lacks air flow will result in mold.
Mold will not only degrade THC, it will take a toll on all cannabinoids. If your storing in an air tight jar, try to keep moisture levels low. If you are using a cedar box, adding moisture control packets is a good idea.
The Bud
Strains high in THC work great for aging. The higher THC percentage will result in more CBN. Without risking total loss of THC, the cannabinoid responsible for delivery and storage of all cannabinoids in the human body.
